"Big News! MoD Signs Rs 1,700 crore Contract with BAPL for NGMMCB-LR and BrahMos Missiles"

In a major development towards achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries -Long range (NGMMCB-LR) and BrahMos Missiles. The entire cost of the contract is over Rs 1,700 crore.

The contract is part of the Buy (Indian) category, and the delivery of NGMMCBs is scheduled to commence in 2027.

These systems will be equipped with supersonic BrahMos Missiles and will significantly enhance the multi-directional maritime strike capability of the Indian Navy. The BAPL, a joint venture between India and Russia, has been contributing to the augmentation of the new generation of Surface-to-Surface missiles with enhanced ranges.

The project is expected to generate employment of more than 90,000 man-days over a period of four years.

"With the majority of the equipment and sub-system sourced from indigenous manufacturers, these systems will be a proud flag bearer of Aatmanirbhar Bharat," said the Ministry of Defence.

This contract is a significant boost to the Make in India initiative and the country's efforts toward achieving self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing. It is a step towards reducing the dependence on imports and strengthening the domestic defence industry.

In addition to the contract with BAPL, the Ministry of Defence has also signed two separate contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

The first contract, worth over Rs 2,800 crore, pertains to the supply of Medium Power Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’ for the Indian Air Force, while the second contract, at an overall cost of approx. Rs 950 crore, relates to 129 DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers (RWR).

The MoD's recent contracts are expected to create employment opportunities, boost indigenous manufacturing capabilities, and enhance India's defence preparedness. They demonstrate the government's commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing and supporting the Make in India initiative.
