Chandrayaan-3: Mission on Track, Next Orbit-Raising Maneuver Tomorrow.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed the third orbit-raising maneuver of Chandrayaan-3 on Tuesday, July 18.
The maneuver was performed at 2:00 PM IST and placed the spacecraft in a 51,400 km x 228 km orbit around the Earth.
This is the third and final orbit-raising maneuver that Chandrayaan-3 will undergo before it is inserted into a lunar orbit.
The next maneuver is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 20. Once in lunar orbit, Chandrayaan-3 will undergo a series of tests before it attempts to land on the Moon's surface.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission is India's third unmanned lunar mission. The first two missions, Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, were both successful. Chandrayaan-1 orbited the Moon for 10 months, while Chandrayaan-2 made a soft landing on the Moon's surface in September 2019.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission is carrying a number of scientific instruments, including a high-resolution camera, a spectrometer, and a magnetometer. The mission's primary objective is to study the Moon's surface and its geology.
