It claimed that as four Russian aircraft approached the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone, they were discovered, tracked, positively recognised, and eventually intercepted (ADIZ).
These included the SU-30 and SU-35 fighter jets, as well as the TU-95 BEAR-H.
According to NORAD, "Russian aircraft continued to operate in international airspace and did not approach US or Canadian sovereign space." In addition, it stated that Russian action close to the Alaska ADIZ is typical and not considered to be a concern.
Since 2007, when Russia allegedly "resumed out of area Long Range Aviation activities," NORAD has reportedly intercepted six or seven military aircraft in the ADIZ. There have been years with none and years with up to 15 intercepts by NORAD.
Including a Chinese spy balloon shot down by NORAD and an object shot down near Alaska – have made headlines. NORAD said that the Russian aircraft intercepted Tuesday is not related to the airborne objects over North America.
NORAD also intercepted four Russian aircraft Monday, said a statement also shared via Twitter.
