The Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, spoke at the second edition of Def-Tech India, an event organized by PhD Chamber of Commerce and Vision Initiatives. He highlighted the importance of Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) and Hypersonic Weapons and urged Indian defence industries to push the development of these weapons and integrate them into airborne platforms to achieve the desired range and accuracy.

The IAF Chief emphasized the need for self-reliance in defence, which should encompass evolving home-grown designs and development capabilities by utilizing the Indian defence industry, start-ups, MSMEs and academia to create a self-sustaining defence R&D ecosystem.

He also listed areas where the Indian aerospace industry needs to invest and excel, including AI-assisted military options, unmanned aerial vehicles, and stealth and anti-stealth technologies.

The IAF Chief said that India needs to incorporate and infuse cutting-edge technologies like Quantum Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, and the Battle Field of Things in its future projects to produce platforms, weapons, sensors, and networks essential to fight and win a future war.

In modern military aviation, the development of stealth technology has proven to be a crucial factor in gaining an edge over adversaries.

This advancement has led to a cat and mouse game between radars, SAM systems, and attacking aircraft. As a result, there is a growing need for research and development in the field of stealth and anti-stealth technologies.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) recognizes this need and has emphasized the importance of harnessing this technology to meet future requirements. The IAF has proven its capability across the entire spectrum of conflict, ranging from peace to no war-no peace, and conflict situations.

However, in order to ensure that India possesses an air force that can address all challenges posed by its adversaries today and in the future, the end users and the developers must work hand in glove.

Cross pollination between the industry and the IAF is essential to achieving this goal. The IAF has put a great emphasis on upgrading its existing inventory of aircraft, weapons, and other combat support systems while also acquiring and operationalizing cutting-edge systems in its inventory.

Indigenous platforms such as LCA Mk 1A, HTT-40 trainers, indigenous weapons, and a wide array of radars will be inducted soon, according to the IAF.

The importance of stealth technology cannot be overstated, and the need for research and development in this field is critical.

The ability to remain undetected by radars and SAM systems gives attacking aircraft a significant advantage over their adversaries. However, this advantage is only possible if the technology is developed and implemented effectively.

The IAF's focus on research and development, along with its commitment to upgrading its existing inventory, will help to ensure that India remains a formidable force in modern military aviation.

The cross-pollination between the industry and the IAF will allow for a more cohesive approach to developing and implementing these technologies, ultimately leading to a stronger and more capable air force.

In conclusion, the importance of stealth technology in modern military aviation cannot be ignored. The development and implementation of this technology are critical to gaining an edge over adversaries, and the Indian Air Force's commitment to research and development in this field will ensure that it remains at the forefront of modern military aviation.
