Gen. Lee emphasized the swift and effective response to this imperative – the creation of a joint unit dedicated exclusively to drone operations. This unit, located in Pocheon near the inter-Korean border, is the first of its kind, bringing together the expertise of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.
Given the escalating military capabilities of North Korea, including nuclear threats, Gen. Lee stressed the importance of a reliable joint unit under the Joint Chiefs of Staff to handle diverse missions.
The Drone Operations Command is designed to achieve an operational and strategic balance, conducting activities ranging from reconnaissance to strikes, electronic warfare, and psychological operations.
In accordance with the new command's doctrine, all missions now incorporate mobile counter-drone capabilities for detecting and classifying enemy unmanned aircraft.
The unit is also responsible for standardizing the education curriculum across different military branches and setting safety standards for force deployment.
