According to the top military official in the U.K., both parties have held two rounds of negotiations to discuss how the cooperation may be advanced. The U.K. is eager to assist India in its efforts to develop maritime electric-propulsion technology for its future warships.

This comes as the UK’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, recently visited India to hold discussions on how the two countries can work together to enhance military-to-military engagements.
During the visit, the Admiral discussed the possibility of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for military training, which would allow the UK and Indian forces to have a basis for training across all domains, including land, air, and maritime.
The two countries are also in talks about including the space and cyber domains into their joint force.
The UK has already been on the journey of developing maritime electric propulsion for over 20 years and is keen to share its knowledge and experience with India to help them accelerate their journey.
Various working groups have been sent to India to facilitate discussions, while the two countries have also established an Electric Propulsion Capability Partnership to collaborate on the development of this technology.
The collaboration between the two countries also extends to other areas, including defence industry cooperation and the Make in India effort.
UK contributions to these efforts include discussions on jet engine capabilities, where Indian engines could be assisted by UK technology.
The recent DefExpo 2022 in Gandhinagar saw defence industry organisations from India and the UK announce the creation of a new Defence Industry Joint Working Group supported by the UK government.
These efforts showcase the strength of the relationship between the two countries and their commitment to enhancing their collaboration.
In recent weeks, there have been a series of high-level visits and military engagements between the two countries, including exercises like Exercise Konkan and Exercise Cobra Warrior. Later this month, Indian Army personnel will participate in bilateral Exercise Ajeya Warrior.
